Why: We thoroughly enjoy the scenic setting of Mariners Landing and Smith Mountain Lake and want to direct one of the finest quality races in the area. We aim to make it a great fundraising event so we may continue to assist cancer patients, survivors, and their families. We firmly believe in giving back to communities who support our Foundation and the way we are going to give back to the community is award a college scholarship to a local high school senior student who has been significantly impacted by cancer.
Proceeds: A portion of the proceeds will go to fund the HCM-SML 4 Miler College Scholarship Program and the remaining proceeds will go to fund our Strongest Link Service Program.
HCM-SML 4 Miler College Scholarship: The purpose of the 2011 HCM-SML 4 Miler College Scholarship is to use a portion of the race proceeds to give back to the surrounding community by providing financial assistance and develop opportunities for students who have been significantly impacted by cancer and reside in Bedford, Franklin, Roanoke counties or the city of Lynchburg in Virginia. In 2011, HCM Foundation will award at least one student with a $1,000 scholarship for their college education and work directly with the student to complete a service project during their fall semester. Entry Fees:
$25 on or before 3/31
$30 on 4/1 through race day
Schedule:
7:30 - 8:45am - Packet pick up & race day registration
8:50am - College scholarship presentation
9:00am - Race start
Post race party as soon as you finish!
10:15am - Awards presentation
Course: An accurate measured slightly rolling course through scenic roads of the Mariners Landing Resort Community! Run Course Map. Please allow a minute or two for the map to properly load!
T-Shirts: All participants who register on or before March 31st will be guaranteed an SML 4 Miler tee shirt! We will have shirts for those who register after that date, but only while supplies last! So register early to get your race shirt!
Post Race Food: Provided by Benjamin’s at The Pointe!!
Awards: Awards for the 4 miler will be presented to the overall male and female winners and to the top 3 male and female winners in the following age groups: 14 & under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 & over.
