May 1st, 2011 - The Gettysburg North-South Marathon - Gettysburg, PA

The history surrounding this inaugural event and the course layout are two big motivators to lace up the race shoes and make it your key event for 2011!  A landmark battle of the Civil War was waged on the roads and fields of Gettysburg in the summer of 1863.  It was an event that symbolized the breach between the North and South, and also marked the turning point of the war and return to a single United States of America.  This marathon builds upon that theme and seeks to recreate the powerful history in a special road race event!

We had nine people take advantage of the charity partner program for the 2011 race!  Combined they

raised a total amount of $5,579!  That money will go a long way to help families impacted by cancer and

we hope the relationships built from this experience will create longer lasting pathways of endless hope!

In addition to the funds raised by participants, the Gettysburg North-South Marathon donated $3,000

of the event proceeds to benefit HCM Foundation programs and services!

June 26th, 2011 - The ½ Sauer ½ Kraut - Pennypack Park, Philadelphia, PA

A HALF MARATHON and MARATHON option, you will be running on a mostly shaded & mostly flat bike trail alongside the Pennypack Creek. You will be supported by 15 aid stations ( 7 for the half), including Oktoberfest Aid station. Heidi, the Bavarian waitress will hand out gels, and we will invite you (yes, first beer is on us) to beer and brats at the post race festivities, while “Hans” will entertain you with his accordion. Find out who else is crazy enough to run a race like this in the summer and rehydrate properly at the German club afterwards. You will dramatically increase your chances of winning something by dressing in Lederhosen or Dirndl (traditional bavarian dress).

In keeping with the theme that was initiated by the Gettysburg North-South Marathon, the Blue-Gray Half Marathon strives to put a different spin on the same idea. We want to have the North and South battle on the roads of Gettysburg almost 150 years after the historic battle that defined the future of a young nation. Runners from North and South will compete again under Blue and Gray flags. All runners will start and finish together. Everyone will run the same 13.1 mile course. At the two mile mark, the two sides will split and run the large eight mile loop in opposite directions, crossing one another at 6.55 miles. They will rejoin after ten miles and finish together.
